Control access to Wordpress Content with Restrict Access

One of the challenges of using Wordpress as a CMS is user management, restricting content, and subscription based content. If you’re looking for a simple, easy way to restrict website content to logged-in members, then consider the Restrict Content plugin.

The free version of Restrict Content is as simple as it gets. Once installed, the plugin adds a meta box on each post or page with the simple heading “Restrict this content”. Using a drop-down menu an administrator can choose the level of user that has access to the content. That’s it. Simple, easy and straightforward to implement.

The other feature the plugin includes is the ability to specify a custom message when a user tries to access content that isn’t available to their current level. You can have different messages for each user level.

If you need more functionality and flexibility, Restrict Content Pro might just do the job. According to the website description,

“Restrict Content Pro is a complete subscription and premium content manager plugin for WordPress. Create an unlimited number of subscription levels, including free, trial and premium. Manage member’s and their subscriptions, track payments, offer discounts with a complete discount code system, and provide premium, members only content to your subscribers.”

The video above is a great overview of its features. It is integrated with Paypal, and provides payment tracking, discount codes, extensive help documents and videos. Currently available for $30 under the Code Canyon license it is an inexpensive way to ramp Wordpress into a full featured membership site with a plugin. Especially when compared to other options such as aMember Pro which costs considerably more.
