Where did my “Joomla! Update” go?

With the release of Joomla 2.5.6 at the beginning of this summer, a lot of developers’ lives got easier than ever before. The development team fixed some important issues that appeared in Joomla 2.5.5.

The update process is very simple. Users that find copying the new files using the FTP method too tedious can opt for the one click method that can be found under Components and carries the self-explanatory name “Joomla Update”.

But for some people the component just doesn’t appear as being installed. For others it says it’s installed but it isn’t under the Admin component menu.

In both cases there is probably an issue with your database. The Joomla bug squad has posted fixes and running a few simple SQL statements ought to bring your component back.

If the component isn’t listed as being installed, run the following SQL statement:

But if the component says it is installed, but it isn’t visible then run this statement instead but replace the “#__menu” with the name of your database:

The 2.5.6 release is an example of the Production Leadership Team's dedication to offering frequent updates and addressing issues submitted for tracking in a timely manner.

A total of 12 issues have been fixed in 2.5.6. All of them reported via the Joomla! CMS Issue Tracker. Some of these bugs were related to Components, and they included: use of legacy aliases with MVC, duplicate lines caused by the FinderController, and a broken toolbar in com_media. All the bugs were investigated and fixed by the Joomla Bug Squad.

Joomla is the second most used CMS platform on the web, after WordPress.
